It's no secret that the I'm a big fan of DIY and hackable projects, which is why this weeks props go out to some mind blowingly cool work in the realm of apparel mods, wearable diy projects, and hacks. It's Friday Props; The Hackable You edition. [JELLYFISH IMAGE] You may have seen this Jellyfish Dress floating around the web. If you're like me your thought process may have gone straight from "that's nifty" to "I wonder how I could make it". If you were interested in making one, you'll be happy to know its creator, Natalie Walsh, has an instructables Read More >>

Friday Props - the Creative Can-do Edition

This week’s Friday Props are all about people making cool ideas happen. From conception to reality these projects are incredibly nifty.I’ll dive in this week with this video sent to me by Edgeworks Creative’s own Adam Lacombe.  The project is half hack, half revival, of the nintendo power glove by animator Dillon Markey (well known for his work on robot chicken). He’s essentially turned the glove into a remote with various functions to make his claymation type animation much more efficient. The project also has some cool secret features, but you’ll have to watch the video to find out what Read More >>

Friday Props - The Sci-fi Shorts edition

This week friday props reaches for the stars, travels through time, and encounters some anomalies. Sit back and enjoy the wondrous world of sci fi with some of my favorite sci fi shorts from around the web. First up is Anomaly, a short (almost 40 minute) science fiction flick set in the 1960’s. The film was inspired by the traditional nativity story, and does an outstanding job portraying relationships “that intertwine around an unprecedented astronomical event”.  Beautifully filmed, with solid acting, and a compelling plot line, this is one worth saving for later if you can’t watch it now. It's that time of week again - the time when we share some of the cool stuff we find. And this week is a special edition because it's the "Oh Crud! Darren's not here and it's Friday!!" edition, which means yours truly is at the helm with absolutely no planning ahead for this. There is nothing connecting this weeks Props together expect maybe - just maybe - they are all pretty neat. The first Props is going out to our old friend the Spirograph. Mind you, this isn't the plastic toy we had as kids. You know - the one whose Read More >>

It’s Friday Props! This week we’re giving props to one item and one item only, because it’s that good. Go ahead and navigate to The DNA Project and tool around for a little bit. Just to start, the site is hands down, no questions asked, strikingly beautiful. Give the intro video a moment to load before diving in, but do take the chance to fully explore this new project by Brooklyn based musician j.viewz. The goal is to share the music creation process, and allow viewers to leave their marks on the work in hopes of enriching the entire experience. Built Read More >>

Friday Props - Keep Calm and Carry On

With the holiday season already upon us many are feeling overwhelmed. We’ve found some props this week to remind you to keep calm, and carry on. First up is the incredibly stressful, incredibly fun looking indie game “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes”. The concept is simple, one player plays in virtual reality, where they are presented with a bomb and no knowledge of how to disarm it. In the real world, other players around the diffuser pour over manuals and cooperatively work to talk the virtual reality player through the disarming process. The mechanics of the game are simple, but ingenious. Read More >>

Friday Props #91 - Internet findings

Good tidings and strange findings, it’s an internet depths edition of Friday Props. We’ve got another round of things that only exist because of the internet, starting with this list of airport’s baggage carousels, and the directions they turn in. Found via the Dull Men’s Club website, which sports taglines such as “wherever you go, there you are” the list is exactly what you’d expect it to be, but here’s the link nonetheless. We’ll follow up with a project from French telecom company Orange that lets you virtually age yourself 20 years, and interact with the result. The project is Read More >>

Friday Props #90 - Musical Connections

It’s Friday once more, and despite the festivities, we managed to steal some time to find a couple of props-worthy gems. We’ll open with this unique music video for Wilkinson's “Afterglow”. Director Remy Cayuela has picked up multiple awards for the video, including first prize in the Young Directors Award at the Cannes Festival this year and a nomination for ‘Best dance video’ award at the UK Music Video Awards. The video breaks down a romantic relationship into statistics to create an interesting profile of two people through numbers. Watch it below, but be warned it does contain some NSFW Read More >>

Friday Props - the Audio Visual Edition

Props this week are short on words, but rich in visual and audible intrigue. We’ve scoured the internet for some of the most props-worthy, music heavy videos we could find. We’ll kick off with a beatbox breakfast sequence by Finnish artist Felix Zengar. Felix’s work heavily on looped audio tracks to deliver some sweet beats. You can find more of his work via his website, and if you find Zengar’s work compelling check out similar artist Beardyman. His Ted talk, “The Polyphonic Me”, is especially interesting and shows how modern musicians can overcome the restrictions of the human voice.  Moving on from Read More >>
