Friday Props-Covers, Acoustics, And A Little Bit Of Art.

I'm always a fan of a well done cover song. There's something to be said for the community created by sharing and appropriating music. So when I stumbled upon the series AV Undercover I had to give it props. Each series they draft a list of songs to be performed, then bring in artists who have to perform one of the songs from the list. The results are pretty spectacular. Here are a few of my favorites so far. Punch Brothers cover The Strokes' "Reptilia" Screaming Females Cover Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" Of Montreal covers The White Stripes' "Fell In Love With Read More >>

It's another week of internet findings! This friday I'm growing up, and telling the youths to get off my lawn! It's Friday Props, the Kids These Days edition. I'll kick off with some senior citizens with some serious street cred. Lata 65 takes first props for bringing the culture of street to the elderly by running workshops in Lisbon Portugal. The project pairs elderly citizens with street artists to create public works of art and cultivate community. Second props this week are going to an urban climbing duo operating as "On The Roofs" for this video of them climbing what is Read More >>

It's Friday Props with some Throwback Thursday flair! It's Friday Props, the pseudo-retro edition. I'll kick things off this week with MyDecadeTV, a site that pays homage to the channel surfing experiences of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The site sources videos from youtube, and has a pretty wide variety of content ranging from cartoons to soap operas. More likely than not you'll stumble into something of interest while making your way through the thousands of videos on the site. My next props throws it back just a little bit further. Old Radio World is an online archive of radio broadcasts Read More >>

I’ve been on a bit of a motion graphics kick this week, so I’m going to be giving props to some crazy cool animations this edition of Friday Props. I’ll jump right in by giving props to Spacetime Fabric Softener, an animated short by Professor Soap, who labels himself as A "purveyor of audiovisual candy". You can check out his website here, but I’d start by watching the short below, which features a highly playful visual treatment to deliver a light and playful story. https://vimeo.com/66903521 My second props goes to a stop motion animation by graffiti artists Blu and David Ellis. It’s Friday Props! This week we’re giving props to one item and one item only, because it’s that good. Go ahead and navigate to The DNA Project and tool around for a little bit. Just to start, the site is hands down, no questions asked, strikingly beautiful. Give the intro video a moment to load before diving in, but do take the chance to fully explore this new project by Brooklyn based musician j.viewz. The goal is to share the music creation process, and allow viewers to leave their marks on the work in hopes of enriching the entire experience. Built Read More >>

Friday Props #90 - Musical Connections

It’s Friday once more, and despite the festivities, we managed to steal some time to find a couple of props-worthy gems. We’ll open with this unique music video for Wilkinson's “Afterglow”. Director Remy Cayuela has picked up multiple awards for the video, including first prize in the Young Directors Award at the Cannes Festival this year and a nomination for ‘Best dance video’ award at the UK Music Video Awards. The video breaks down a romantic relationship into statistics to create an interesting profile of two people through numbers. Watch it below, but be warned it does contain some NSFW Read More >>

Friday Props - the Audio Visual Edition

Props this week are short on words, but rich in visual and audible intrigue. We’ve scoured the internet for some of the most props-worthy, music heavy videos we could find. We’ll kick off with a beatbox breakfast sequence by Finnish artist Felix Zengar. Felix’s work heavily on looped audio tracks to deliver some sweet beats. You can find more of his work via his website, and if you find Zengar’s work compelling check out similar artist Beardyman. His Ted talk, “The Polyphonic Me”, is especially interesting and shows how modern musicians can overcome the restrictions of the human voice.  Moving on from Read More >>

Friday Props #87 - Useful

Todays props go out to some of the incredibly useful tools of the internet. From planning your next vacation to figuring out what to watch on Netflix, there’s a plethora of projects on the web that help make your life easier. First up is Adioso, a great flight comparison tool for those who want to travel, but don’t have specific dates or destinations. Adioso allows the use of natural language in its search tools. For example, you could search for a flight from Boston to Northern Europe for about a month, and you’ll be given a variety of destinations, dates, Read More >>
