It's the world of tomorrow from yesterday! It's Friday Props, the Retrofuturist edition! I stumbled across some wonderfully quirky visions of the future this week and had to share them for Friday Props. I'll be kicking off with this collection of Japanese futurist illustrations predating the 1960's. The collection is filled with visions of futures utopian or otherwise all with some super retro flair. While sifting through some of these fantastic images I was brought back to hours spent pouring over Chris Foss' "21st Century Foss" as a kid. I'll give his work a props as well and share his Read More >>
It's Friday, which means Friday Props. This week, I'm giving in to wanderlust and bringing you the places edition of Friday Props. First up is this collection of abandoned greenhouses I found via Messy Nessy Chic, a blog by Paris based lifestyle blogger Vanessa. Self descirbed as " a different kind of lifestyle blog written from Paris about off-beat culture, unique people and all things chic with a pinch of humor and a spoonful of nostalgia", the site contains a slew of cool findings, with a heavy focus on life as a Parisian.Next up to receive props this week is Read More >>
Each week I get to spend part of my Friday sharing my internet findings. This week, I'd like to share some of my go-to's for props worthy findings. It's Friday Props, the curated web edition! One of my first go-to's for quality content is Booooooom. The blog features art, film, photography, music, design and more. The site also heavily focuses on user submitted content, with monthly posts dedicated entirely to submissions. You can see last month's here. Boom has a pretty extensive list of art and photo tumblr blogs worth following, and definitely worth going through, here. Below is a look Read More >>
Drones! Drones! Drones! You may have guessed that todays props are all about drones. Love them or hate them, they're pretty solidly here to stay, so here's a look at some of the cool things being done with them. First up I'll props Festo Bionics for their new take on what a drone should be. Go ahead and marvel over their newly revealed autonomous butterfly drones in action below. Next up is some pure eye candy in the form of Rotorworks drone footage showreel. Shot entirely with drones, this quick reel contains some amazing aerial footage. If you're considering purchasing a Read More >>
It's Friday, and that means it's time for some friday props. This week I'll be featuring some insanely bright, energized art. First up is work from Australian artist Tanya Schultz, who works under the pseudonyme Pip & Pop. Like her chosen name, her work is light, playful, and full of quirk. Primarily sculpture based, her materials focus heavily on the use of sugar, glitter, and small trinkets and oddities. Check out her portfolio at pipandpop.com.au I'll follow up with work by Souther Salazar, whose work is self described as "an exercise in spontaneity". His paintings are playful, colorful, and feel full Read More >>
Spring is (technically) here, and we're itching for some sunshine around the office. This weeks props go out to some projects that bring a little more color and quirk into our lives; It's Friday Props, the Spring Fever Edition. My first props this week goes to Japanese art collective TeamLab for their latest installation piece "Floating Flower Garden". The immersive piece, currently installed at Miraikan in Tokyo, consists of over 2300 live flowers suspended in a room. When a viewer walks through the piece the flowers closest to them rise to form a dome around them. Check out video footage of Read More >>
It's Friday Props with some Throwback Thursday flair! It's Friday Props, the pseudo-retro edition. I'll kick things off this week with MyDecadeTV, a site that pays homage to the channel surfing experiences of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The site sources videos from youtube, and has a pretty wide variety of content ranging from cartoons to soap operas. More likely than not you'll stumble into something of interest while making your way through the thousands of videos on the site. My next props throws it back just a little bit further. Old Radio World is an online archive of radio broadcasts Read More >>
What do dogs, Will.i.am, and 3D Printing have in common? A lot actually, you'd be surprised. That being said, this week we're props-ing some pretty stellar work being done by 3D systems, a US based company making leaps and bounds in the world of 3D printing. First up is the heartwarming story of Derby the dog. Born with deformed front legs, his owners were involved in a project to 3D print prosthetics in conjunction with 3D systems. This is the kind of creative problem solving that 3D printing is bringing to the forethought of the design process. And then check out Read More >>
Our hundredth Friday Props post is just one week away, so I'll be returning to our themeless roots. But first, I'll put in my plug to come back next week for our 100th Post Retrospective, which promises to be full of fun findings. With that bit of business out of the way, here are your regularly scheduled Friday Props. First props this week go to Ernesto Neto's highly interactive, extremely immersive sculptures. Often regarded as "playscapes" these sculptures engage viewers and encourage their exploration and tactile exploration of the work.Picture below is work from his exhibit entitled "Madness is Part of Read More >>
I’ve been on a bit of a motion graphics kick this week, so I’m going to be giving props to some crazy cool animations this edition of Friday Props. I’ll jump right in by giving props to Spacetime Fabric Softener, an animated short by Professor Soap, who labels himself as A "purveyor of audiovisual candy". You can check out his website here, but I’d start by watching the short below, which features a highly playful visual treatment to deliver a light and playful story. https://vimeo.com/66903521 My second props goes to a stop motion animation by graffiti artists Blu and David Ellis.
