It's Friday Props with some Throwback Thursday flair! It's Friday Props, the pseudo-retro edition. I'll kick things off this week with MyDecadeTV, a site that pays homage to the channel surfing experiences of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The site sources videos from youtube, and has a pretty wide variety of content ranging from cartoons to soap operas. More likely than not you'll stumble into something of interest while making your way through the thousands of videos on the site. My next props throws it back just a little bit further. Old Radio World is an online archive of radio broadcasts Read More >>

What do dogs, Will.i.am, and 3D Printing have in common? A lot actually, you'd be surprised. That being said, this week we're props-ing some pretty stellar work being done by 3D systems, a US based company making leaps and bounds in the world of 3D printing. First up is the heartwarming story of Derby the dog. Born with deformed front legs, his owners were involved in a project to 3D print prosthetics in conjunction with 3D systems. This is the kind of creative problem solving that 3D printing is bringing to the forethought of the design process. And then check out Read More >>

Friday Props - The Eclectic Edition

Our hundredth Friday Props post is just one week away, so I'll be returning to our themeless roots. But first, I'll put in my plug to come back next week for our 100th Post Retrospective, which promises to be full of fun findings. With that bit of business out of the way, here are your regularly scheduled Friday Props. First props this week go to Ernesto Neto's highly interactive, extremely immersive sculptures. Often regarded as "playscapes" these sculptures engage viewers and encourage their exploration and tactile exploration of the work.Picture below is work from his exhibit  entitled "Madness is Part of Read More >>

I’ve been on a bit of a motion graphics kick this week, so I’m going to be giving props to some crazy cool animations this edition of Friday Props. I’ll jump right in by giving props to Spacetime Fabric Softener, an animated short by Professor Soap, who labels himself as A "purveyor of audiovisual candy". You can check out his website here, but I’d start by watching the short below, which features a highly playful visual treatment to deliver a light and playful story. https://vimeo.com/66903521 My second props goes to a stop motion animation by graffiti artists Blu and David Ellis. It's no secret that the I'm a big fan of DIY and hackable projects, which is why this weeks props go out to some mind blowingly cool work in the realm of apparel mods, wearable diy projects, and hacks. It's Friday Props; The Hackable You edition. [JELLYFISH IMAGE] You may have seen this Jellyfish Dress floating around the web. If you're like me your thought process may have gone straight from "that's nifty" to "I wonder how I could make it". If you were interested in making one, you'll be happy to know its creator, Natalie Walsh, has an instructables Read More >>

Restaurant Rebrand - Arvads Grill

Recently we completed a year-long project with one of Waterbury's most iconic restaurants - Arvads. We were brought on board to help with a re-branding effort for the local eatery to coincide with their 25th anniversary of being in business.  Arvads Grill (formerly Arvad's Grill & Pub) approached Edgeworks Creative with the knowledge that they wanted to change things up a bit and offer something different than what they had been doing. Having been in business as long as they have they felt as though the other restaurants in town were benefitting more from the beer tourism and foodie movement that Read More >>

Friday Props - the Creative Can-do Edition

This week’s Friday Props are all about people making cool ideas happen. From conception to reality these projects are incredibly nifty.I’ll dive in this week with this video sent to me by Edgeworks Creative’s own Adam Lacombe.  The project is half hack, half revival, of the nintendo power glove by animator Dillon Markey (well known for his work on robot chicken). He’s essentially turned the glove into a remote with various functions to make his claymation type animation much more efficient. The project also has some cool secret features, but you’ll have to watch the video to find out what Read More >>

Friday Props - The Sci-fi Shorts edition

This week friday props reaches for the stars, travels through time, and encounters some anomalies. Sit back and enjoy the wondrous world of sci fi with some of my favorite sci fi shorts from around the web. First up is Anomaly, a short (almost 40 minute) science fiction flick set in the 1960’s. The film was inspired by the traditional nativity story, and does an outstanding job portraying relationships “that intertwine around an unprecedented astronomical event”.  Beautifully filmed, with solid acting, and a compelling plot line, this is one worth saving for later if you can’t watch it now. Friday Props - The Time Edition

New Years has come and gone, but it left a lot of us reflecting on how we spent the last 365 days. This weeks Props feature a variety of projects that examine the way we spend and understand our time. Opening up this weeks roster of Props Worthy findings is a gorgeous infographic that’s been floating around depicting various famous creatives and their daily routines. It's that time of week again - the time when we share some of the cool stuff we find. And this week is a special edition because it's the "Oh Crud! Darren's not here and it's Friday!!" edition, which means yours truly is at the helm with absolutely no planning ahead for this. There is nothing connecting this weeks Props together expect maybe - just maybe - they are all pretty neat. The first Props is going out to our old friend the Spirograph. Mind you, this isn't the plastic toy we had as kids. You know - the one whose Read More >>
