Like most 17 year olds, Jamie Hack likes to stay up all night and sleep in all morning. Jamie lives a thrilling and dangerous life, his most recent accomplishment being able to "hack" into the Edgeworks Creative headquarters. Gamer by day and batman enthusiast by night, Jamie has grown fond of web development and has joined the Edgeworks team, hoping to learn a trick or two along the way. Jamie's interests include, but not limited to, sleeping, wake boarding, killing zombies, performing back flips on the trampoline, annoying his sister, and obsessing over television shows that his sister got him Read More >>

Friday Props #20

Twenty! Hitting a milestone of props this week! Ed and I got to talking last week amid the autumn breezes, throwing our brains out in an informal storming session when the topic turned to the potential for a world take-over by robots. On the one hand, there is plenty of fodder, past and present, to fuel these nightmares (fantasies) including tales from I, Robot by Ray Bradbury to the Terminator and Matrix movie trilogies. The missing element from these stories is the background, the precursory stories leading up to the desperate state of humanity envisioned in these futures. Regardless of what the future holds for the human race, the future is here. The problem is, it sounds like a very large, annoying mosquito. And while these swarm bots have the right idea, there is no WAY that a small child is going to sit still this long. A patient child is a missing child   Robots from Above!   Settling back into the natural world, a couple of coders developed a new tool to track surface currents on the Great Lakes, our inland seas. Although there are no tide on the lakes, the surface of the water is constantly on the move, cover 94,250 square [....] Read More >>

Edgeworks Creative - Junior Web Developer, Adam LaCombe, from Randolph, Vermont has an in-depth interest in coding and enjoys spending his off-time playing video games. As a young child he was very interested and enjoyed taking electronic devices apart to see how things worked and then would re-build them. In the year 2010 he built his first computer and then used it as a web server for several websites he had built. One of his favorite websites he built and hosted on his server was his very own search engine. He first built the search engine just using a MySQL database, but soon realized it would be too slow and therefore implemented the Sphinx Search Engine. Soon after he had indexed over 1 million websites and images. Adam is a self-taught web developer who learned almost all of his skills by reading online documentation and tutorials. Adam's skills include: PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, GIMP, and much much more... Read More >>

Every office has that one employee ... you know ... the one that sucks. Well.. meet Ruby. Ruby was formerly a house slave who spent the last several years in Ed's basement without much to do. When we opened the office in Waterbury, though, it became apparent that we would need somebody to sweep clean the floors every night and we decided it was high time to put Ruby back to work. Ruby enjoys dirt, dust, mud and occasional muck. Her favorite time of year in Vermont is mud season when she gets to show off her appetite the most. Although she appears a happy round camper she is in fact a gritty character. Recently she's been complaining of old age and demanding more nights off. Although we're not quite ready to agree to an early retirement, we have been giving her a more flexible schedule. Who knew that robot vacuums could be so demanding!? Read More >>

Meet the Team: Cynthia Ryan

The year is 2025 and the Zombie Apocalypse has devastated the United States, all save for Vermont, thanks to Edgeworks Creative and its ingenious co-founder, Cynthia Ryan. In the small town of Waterbury, this highly creative, fun and sometimes funny (there’s occasionally an issue with the punchline being forgotten because of the intricacy of the jokes) woman figured out the KEY to saving humanity through design. Cynthia wanted to be an artist from a young age and honed her skill while watching her grandparents, both professional artists, work in their design studio. Her passion for art spurred her to go to school and study visual media, giving her a strong foundation in design which she provided to her clients in a timely, cost-effective and ascetically pleasing manner... before the dark ages. Little did she know that her ancestors were passing down a valuable skill that not only would provide for her living, but also enable the continuation of the human race. Cynthia found there is more than one way to control a zombie invasion. Yes- there is the basic method (aim for the head and run like heck in the opposite direction) but she figured out that her skill and technique was so [....] Read More >>
