Friday Props this week to The Truck Art Project for bringing contemporary and urban art out onto the highway and in the streets. The Truck Art Project was brought together by Jaime Colsa, a businessman and art collector, and is curated by Fer Francés for contemporary art and Óscar Sanz for urban art.
The goal of the project is to bring cutting-edge, contemporary works of art out into the world instead of behind the walls of galleries and museums. The project has seen widespread support from all angles and has been a rousing success.
Colsa owns a transportation fleet so the idea was to have contemporary artists use the sides of trucks as their canvas and then send the trucks about their business throughout Spain. The trucks delivered their goods, but they also delivered a mobile art experience to non-traditional audiences for this kind of artwork.
There are ten trucks in the fleet adorned with the works of artists in Spain including Javier Arce, Javier Calleja, Abraham Lacalle, Okuda San Miguel, Daniel Muñoz, Suso33, and Marina Vargas.
Each artist applied their own techniques and styles, and all were faced with the issues this unique project brought to bear including scale and canvas.
