I've been a fan of kinetic sculptures for a long time. In fact, it's on my bucket list to create one. I was surprised, then, to find that we hadn't given Props out to an artist involved in kinetic scultures since 2012.
This week for Friday Props we recognize the work of Studio DRIFT, a Netherlands based group of multidisciplinary artists. What drew us to them were the fabulous kinetic sculptures made of silk and put in motion - a truly beautiful expression and one made more real by seeing it than describing it.
We came for the show "Shylight", but we stayed for the equally mind-blowing DRIFTER exhibit.
Studio DRIFT was founded in 2007 by Dutch artists Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta. They work with a team of over sixty to create experiential sculptures, installations and performances. I'd argue they work to create awe.
